Flu is the WORST! So let's Partah! CONTEST OVER. No more entries, please.

ZOMG people. 3 weeks.

TWENTY ONE DAYS!

That's why you haven't seen me anywhere. At all. I've been sucking down Nyquil and sleeping 16 hours a day.

To celebrate not being dead, I'm going to be hosting a giveawaypalooza for you guys of all the stuff I either meant to give away or have just been given to pass along to you from generous companies and publishers.

I'm calling it the February Flu By Giveaway! I don't even know what day it is. It's still February--right?!

Let's celebrate the ability to breathe through sinus passages, keeping stomach contents where they belong, and taming those germs.

The rules? Simple as as can be.

Just shoot me an email to cleochatra@gmail.com. Title your email "February Flu By _________ (and the name of the prize you want to win)" and include your name and full address so that I can ship this stuff to you as soon as your name is drawn. All emails are then deleted and no personal information is kept. I delete, shred, burn everything.

I am requiring a prize title in the email for this reason: Who wants to enter a contest hoping for sweetener and then win a book about fitness for kids when all you have is a goldfish? I mean puhlease, sister!

so, if you want to win the Truvia, specify that in your title. You are welcome to apply for any categories (Books, cooks, or looks) but please only enter for up to two prizes to give others a fair chance. We get hundreds of entries for one item. This is going to be pretty stellar.

Items for this giveaway:

Books
Good Calories, Bad Calories, by Gary Taubes

End of Induction. Monday Weigh-in

Woot woot! 14 days down and I've lost a grand total of 21 pounds. I had a lot of salty food this weekend, so I only lost a pound last week (lol), but hey! I'll take it!

We had a busy week, so the days were punctuated with pizza toppings. Whole num and low-carb, they are totally saltrifficness.

No menus this week since I have been busy. If I did put a menu together, it would be filled with veggies, cheese cubes and pizza toppings as a theme. I also had cauliflower, stuffed crust pizza and salads.

Sorry for the short one today, but I'm zipping into work early.

Still, 21 pounds in 2 weeks, eating what I want to (within reason) on Atkins 2002. Not bad. If you've been considering giving Atkins a go (and have consulted with your doctor), why not! Go for it. By my next birthday I plan to try and hit goal at a time many Americans are starting to let go a little... I want a set of six packs--not two liters!

Bacon man?

Weird things made of bacon are cropping up all over the 'net. I don't know if it is because bacon is the manna of the gods, or because it's just a weird thing to use for making bad effigies, but check this out.

Bacon Man

It looks a little like the Wicker Man, doesn't it?

As much as I'm a fan of pig products formed into bad Druid artifacts, I don't know if I could shake the bad Nicholas Cage rendition from my head.

I absolutely love writing as an Examiner! It is a great time, and the editors are tremendous. We're really like a big family.

Since beginning to write for Examiner.com, I have garnered over 50,000 readers a month, have blessed with over 500 subscribers, and make enough money each month to pay for groceries for a family of 6 on very little effort.

Our company currently has over 12 million readers monthly, with over 2 million links coming from Examiners as a trusted source of information.

Many of our writers are going out in the top handful of Google and Yahoo searches, and a few have been picked up by Fark, Yahoo News and Drudge! Linda Franklin has been on the Today Show, and Auction Wally (Walt Kolenda) has appeared on a local Fox station. Other writers are being discovered and are garnering book deals and other opportunities to write for pay.

It really is an incredible opportunity to be seen and to pay it forward to other low-carbers (or other topics you have a fondness for). Make sure you apply for whatever your true passion is and where you feel you will be a fantastic local resource to your readers.

Stuffed Crust Pizza Tweaks

Top: Pictured is the string cheese spread around the edge of the crust after the first baking at 450 degrees for about 12-15 minutes. Make sure to let the crust cool on the stove for about 10 minutes prior to adding cheese and rolling edges over.

Press dough over the cheese and press down. If the crust tries to come apart, smooch and mold it to the string cheese to gold it in place.

Add toppings. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. If cheese starts to ooze from crust, pop pizza under the broiler for 2 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes.

This last step is different from my prior recipe, where I said to go ahead and refrigerate and then broil and then bake. Technically, it's all the same, but I was really happy with the results of baking prior to broiling.

How did you lose 19 pounds in one week?

It occurred to me over the course of the day (and not a few emails) that there is probably some confusion regarding my ability to lose 19 pounds in a week.

BAH! I say to those of you who can't read my mind.

Here is the deal:

1. I am a hefty hepcat mama. I'm no lightweight. I have more to lose, and so I'm going to lose more quickly in the beginning.

2. High metabolism. Does that sound cliche? I feign a straight face here because it cracks me up to say it. Still, Atkins says that those with a high metabolism can expect to lose roughly 6-10% of weight loss needed in the first two weeks.

If you have 200 pounds to lose, that means you could be expected to lose anywhere from 10-20 pounds in the first 14 days (if, and I mean IF your metabolism is not a hot mess). If you take steroids, have thyroid complications or are dealing with other medical issues, you may not lose weight this quickly. If you have less to lose, and you're not a guy (they fart and sprout a six-pack of abs), expect to lose less.

3. I didn't keep a menu because I was busy. I will say this. I listened to the good Dr and follow the 2002 plan. I eat my 3 servings of veggies per day, stick to cheese limits, and eat fat and protein to help temper the minimal veggie sugars.

I ate: Cauliflower stuffed crust pizza, salads, a Wendy's Baconator, a Red Robin Guacamole Bacon burger wrapped in lettuce, steamed veggies, veggie trays, little cheese cubes, pepperoni and olives. (Not all in the same day).

I eat when hungry and stop when no longer hungry, and I drink water when thirsty.

I don't use sugar alcohols (they keeel mee) and I try to keep artificial sweeteners to a minimum.

I also keep food always ready and handy; otherwise when starving, it would be too easy to make the wrong choices. Today I'm mad at myself for having no frozen cauliflower in the house to make lasagna noodles.

4. I weigh daily. Not as an obsessive gesture, but to gauge if something from the day before threw me off track.

Other than that, I haven't done anything special. I'm just fat, bloaty and full of high metabolism--which, I might add-- is going to kill me eventually. high metabolisms tend to poop out more quickly than the lower ones, accounting for males dying sooner than females.

That said, I'd better get thin. Who knows how long I have before the old ticker goes kerplooey and hubby's collecting the insurance. (LOL)

Does this help? I'm rambling now...

First Monday weigh-in of the year

Good morning, gorjusses!

As you know, I started Atkins this last Monday.

I am dedicated to bringing you the news weekly so that you know exactly how I'm doing. Why? Because accountability is ever so sweet, and because it's important to show that you don't have to use a crash diet to get to goal. Yummy, sensible eating rules the day!

I have been pretty bad at keeping menus here because I am so busy that I haven't had time to write down what I'm eating. Anymore I'm grab and go girl, noshing from pizzas I've made.

I do eat the recipes I post (when they're for my particular portion of the plan, ie induction), and they do not stall me.

That said, since last week I'm down 19 pounds. Yes, in one week. Last year, I lost 16 pounds the first week. I beat that by 3... not bad, considering I weigh less than I did last year when I began.

How is your journey?

I am off to make more delicious, veggie-loaded pizza for the noms! Have a great day, and check in to let me know how you're doing on your own, hep cap weight losses!

As an aside, I've added information to the recipes along the side. Now you can tell at a glance which recipes are induction-friendly and which are also gluten-free.'

I've also added a tartar sauce under sauces and soups to the right.

Correction: Denny's Grand Slam Tuesday, February 3rd

From 6 am- 2pm, Denny's is giving each American a Grand Slam breakfast.

If you head out, make sure to stay away from the pancakes and the carbs!

So, instead for the eggs, sausage and the bacon-- make sure to ask the waitress to NOT make scrambled eggs with pancake batter, or be on the safe side, and order the sunny side ups instead!

Thanks so much for the corrections! I am a hot mess with numerical dates this week! I was wondering yesterday why we hadn't heard about the Groundhog.
